HP Tuners Licensing: What You Need to Know
To get started with HP Tuners, you'll need two things:
- An HP Tuners interface device (MPVI2, 2+, or 3)
- A license for each vehicle you want to tune, purchased with HP Tuners Universal Credits
A license allows the interface device to write modified tune files back to the licensed vehicle.Important:
- Unlicensed vehicles cannot be tuned with an HP Tuners interface.
- Most vehicles require between 2 and 6 credits to license.
- Universal Credits can be used for any supported vehicle, regardless of year, make, and model.
- Older version 1 MPVI units used brand-specific credits, which are still valid and accepted if unused.
What are Universal Credits?
Universal Credits are the currency used to buy licenses for specific vehicles. Each license is tied to a vehicle's:
- VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
- Controller serial number
- Operating System on the controller
How do I Purchase Credits?
You can purchase credits below. If you already have a first version MPVI module, purchase 'Brand Specific' credits for your make or model. If you have an MPVI version 2, 2+ or 3, then purchase 'Universal Credits'.
How many credits do I need?
The number of credits required to license a vehicle varies depending on the vehicle. Here's what you need to know:
- Most single vehicle licenses require between 2 and 6 credits.
- Licenses for all vehicles of the same model and year require more credits than a single vehicle license.
